Schusev State Museum of Architecture

Schusev State Museum of Architecture

Schusev State Museum of Architecture forming part of the USSR Academy of Architecture was founded on January 1, 1934. It appears to be the first museum dedicated to architecture in the world. Numerous engravings, lithographs, models, furniture and textiles, sculpture, frescos and paintings illustrate the development of the world architecture from antiquity to the nineteenth century. The Museum’s rich colection includes not only materials on Russian architecture, which made up the majority of the holdings, but also arcitectural artefacts from Europe, Byzantium, and the Middle East. Visitors can even have a look at such exotic items as model huts from New Zealand and pile dwellings from Indochina and enjoy guided tours through the Museum’s exposition and architectural objects of Moscow.
