Aeroexpress seems like a simple story: you arrive, buy a ticket, and go. In reality, it has two non-obvious rules that cause people to either go to the wrong place or overpay.
He no longer goes to Vnukovo.
This is the first and most unpleasant thing for those planning a trip based on old memories. The schedule on the carrier's official website now only lists two airports: Sheremetyevo and Domodedovo. Vnukovo is not listed among the destinations.
Meanwhile, the query "Aeroexpress to Vnukovo" is constantly being asked, and old guidebooks still describe it. You need to plan your trip to Vnukovo from the metro: the station there leads directly to the terminal.
The ticket is not tied to a specific train.
The second rule works in your favor, but almost no one knows about it.
The ticket is valid for ninety days from the date chosen at purchase, on any route from Sheremetyevo or Domodedovo airports and back. The seat is not assigned.
What does this mean in practice: it's impossible to miss your Aeroxpress train. The flight was delayed, you got stuck in traffic on the way to the station, plans shifted by a day - your ticket is still valid. You can buy it up to ninety days in advance.
Тарифы
The standard fare is 700 Russian rubles per trip.
The standard advance ticket is 650 ₽. It's the same car, the same trip, but you need to buy the ticket at least a day before the trip starts. Fifty rubles to remember about the ticket the day before, rather than at the platform.
The standard round-trip ticket is 1,350 ₽. That's fifty rubles cheaper than two single tickets.
Business — ₽1,700, round trip ₽2,700. The cost includes drinks at the self-service bar, packing of one piece of luggage, and its storage for up to twenty-four hours. ⚠️ For the Sheremetyevo route, services under this fare are provided on the section Belorussky Station — Sheremetyevo — Belorussky Station.
When is it more profitable to travel with a group
The "Together" tariff line is considered per group, not per person:
Two passengers — ₽1,350, which is ₽675 per person;
three passengers - ₽1,800, ₽600 each;
four passengers — 2,400 ₽, 600 ₽ each;
Five passengers - 3,000 ₽, 600 ₽ each.
Let's calculate: for four people with regular tickets, it's 2,800 ₽, and with the "Together" tariff, it's 2,400 ₽. That's a saving of 400 rubles, and that's even though buying in advance only saves less when purchased individually.
⚠️ Group tickets have a technical condition that sometimes causes companies to scatter and lose their passage: all passengers must pass through the turnstiles within fifteen minutes of the first person entering. So, let's gather at the turnstiles first, then go for coffee.
Baggage: What's Included and What's Not
With the standard fare, you transport your luggage yourself and free of charge - there is no separate fee for a suitcase, nor a separate baggage car.
The business tariff includes two services that are not available in the standard tariff: packing one piece of luggage and its storage for up to twenty-four hours. The second service is more interesting than the first: it's essentially a storage locker for a day, included in the ticket price.
A scenario where this pays off: you arrive in the morning, and hotel check-in isn't until 2 PM. The difference between a standard and a business room is a thousand rubles, and for that, you get 24-hour luggage storage and don't have to lug your suitcase around town.
Why does the pre-payment rate even exist?
The fifty-ruble difference between ₽700 and ₽650 may seem insignificant, but it has a meaning worth understanding.
The condition is simple: the ticket must be purchased at least 24 hours before the start of the trip. This gives the carrier predictability of load, and you a small discount.
The important thing is that the preliminary fare doesn't take away the main advantage: it has the same ninety-day validity period, and it's not tied to a specific train either. This means buying it the day before and traveling whenever you can is a workable plan.
What follows from this for the trip?
Going to Vnukovo. We're not considering Aeroexpress at all; we're planning on using the metro.
Traveling alone and in advance. Take the preliminary fare for ₽650 the day before: it's the cheapest.
You're going there and back. A round-trip ticket for ₽1,350 with a ninety-day validity covers your entire trip with a single purchase — your return ticket won't expire, even if you stay longer.
Traveling with a group of three or more people. The "Together" fare gives you ₽600 per person compared to the usual ₽700, and the difference grows with the number of passengers.
What the Aeroexpress doesn't solve
He's on schedule and without traffic, but he'll take you to the train station, not to your address. From there, you'll need to take the subway or a taxi, so factor in extra time for that part of your journey.
And it's not 24/7: at night, when the metro is also closed, only the bus and taxi are available. This is the exact situation where people arriving at 1 AM discover they have no way to get around until morning.
