The National Centre RUSSIA (Национальный центр «Россия») is one of Moscow's newest cultural attractions — a large, free-to-enter exhibition space on the Krasnopresnenskaya Embankment, right next to the Moscow-City skyscrapers. It grew out of the hugely popular RUSSIA EXPO held at VDNKh in 2023-2024, and it now runs a permanent programme of interactive expositions, lectures, concerts and family events showcasing the country's regions, science and culture. If you are already visiting the Moscow-City observation decks, it makes an easy, low-cost half-day stop.

What is the National Centre RUSSIA?

The Centre is a state cultural project created to present the achievements, nature and culture of all of Russia's federal districts under one roof. Today it operates inside Pavilion 7 of the Expocentre, while a much larger permanent complex is being built on the same riverside site. It is aimed at families, students and curious travellers, and most of its core exhibitions are hands-on and visual, so a language barrier is rarely a problem.

Where it is and how to get there

Where it is and how to get there

The Centre sits on the Krasnopresnenskaya Embankment, 14, on the bank of the Moskva River. The closest metro station is Delovoy Tsentr (Big Circle Line / Filyovskaya), with Vystavochnaya a short walk away; Ulitsa 1905 Goda is also within reach. Because it is next to the Moscow-City business district, it pairs naturally with a visit to the skyscraper observation decks — see our guide to the Panorama 360 observation deck in the Federation Tower.

What to see inside

"Journey Across Russia"

The flagship exposition, "Journey Across Russia" (Путешествие по России), spans around 3,000 square metres and uses dozens of interactive installations to walk you through every federal district — its nature, industry, science and traditions. It is the most family-friendly part of the Centre and the best place to start. Entry is free, but the guided tour of this exposition must be booked in advance.

"The Birth of Scale" and rotating exhibitions

An architecture-focused exposition, "The Birth of Scale", is a permanent feature that explores landmark building projects and design ideas. Alongside the permanent displays, the Centre hosts a rotating calendar of temporary exhibitions (a "Geography Lessons" exposition has run recently), forums, film screenings and concerts, so it is worth checking the official programme for the dates of your visit.

What's coming: the new permanent complex

A new, purpose-built home for the Centre is under construction on the Expocentre site — a multifunctional complex of roughly 205,000 square metres planned to include a covered event space with an amphitheatre, around 60,000 m² of exhibition halls, a 3,500-seat concert hall, a media centre and a youth innovation cluster. It is scheduled for completion in 2029, and regional branches are also being opened across the country. Until the new building opens, all visits are to the current space in Pavilion 7.

How to fit it into your trip

Because the Centre is free and centrally located by the river, it works well as a first or last stop on a day around Moscow-City. Combine it with the skyscraper observation decks, a riverside walk and the nearby shopping malls. For a full day plan, see our one-day Moscow itinerary, and for the bigger picture browse our overview of things to do and see in Moscow. If you would rather have a guide walk you through the highlights of the district, you can book a Moscow-City tour or experience online, and arrange a smooth private transfer from the airport for your arrival day.
